Ethiopia wants to generate 25 megawatts of additional power with $ 10 billion investment

The Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy held talks with Fortiskiw, an international organization, to generate 25 megawatts of additional power.

The company wants to generate 15 megawatts of water and 10 megawatts of geothermal and invest $ 10 billion.

Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Dr. Sileshi Bekele said this is a great opportunity for Ethiopia.

He said the government has recently made reforms to improve access to energy, which is only 45 percent in Ethiopia, by developing clean and renewable energy and financing the sector. He explained that work is underway to involve private investors and build strong institutions.

In particular, He said the talks and the initiative of the organization are important as Ethiopia plans to provide 100 percent energy to its citizens by 2030.

Fortiskiw, an international organization that has been successful in doing similar work in Australia, Guinea and other countries, expressed his desire to generate 25 megawatts of power in Ethiopia.

According to information obtained from the Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Energy, Fortiski is interested in mining, fertilizer, power generation, clean water supply and other activities.
